Honest Elections & Constitutional Government
Trust the Process, Enforce the Law
Elections are the foundation of self-government.
For that system to work, Americans must have confidence that elections are conducted fairly, transparently, and according to the law. When trust breaks down, so does legitimacy.
Idaho has a strong track record of election integrity, but confidence is not something we assume—it is something we maintain through clear rules, consistent enforcement, and transparency.
I support secure, verifiable elections that are accessible to eligible voters and accountable to the public.
What Is Driving the Concern?
Erosion of Public Trust
Across the country, confidence in elections has declined. Whether due to real issues, poor communication, or lack of transparency, this loss of trust must be addressed directly.
Inconsistent Standards Across States
Elections are administered differently across states, creating confusion and raising questions about fairness and uniformity in federal elections.
Weak Transparency and Oversight
When processes are unclear or difficult to verify, it creates doubt—even when systems are functioning properly.
Politicization of Election Administration
Election systems should be trusted institutions, not political battlegrounds. When administration becomes politicized, confidence suffers.
Why It Matters to Idaho
Idaho voters expect elections that are secure, straightforward, and trustworthy.
Confidence in elections ensures peaceful transitions of power and stable governance. Without that confidence, division grows and institutions weaken.
This is not about one election or one outcome. It is about maintaining a system that the public can trust over time.
My Approach
Election integrity and voter access are not competing goals. We can and should have both.
The focus should be on:
- Clear rules
- Transparent processes
- Consistent enforcement
- Public accountability
The Constitution assigns states primary responsibility for administering elections. The federal role should be limited to protecting that framework—not overriding it.
Policy Priorities
Strengthen Transparency
Election processes should be observable, understandable, and verifiable. Transparency builds confidence.
Support Secure Voting Systems
Accurate voter rolls, secure ballots, and reliable procedures are essential to maintaining integrity.
Protect State Authority
States should retain primary control over election administration. I oppose federal overreach that attempts to centralize control.
Ensure Consistent Enforcement of Election Law
Rules only work if they are applied consistently. I support clear standards and accountability in enforcement.
Reduce Politicization
Election systems should be administered with professionalism and neutrality, not partisan influence.
Day One Priorities
In the Senate, I will support legislation and oversight to:
- Increase transparency and auditability of federal election processes
- Oppose federal mandates that override state election authority
- Support efforts to maintain accurate voter rolls and secure systems
- Strengthen oversight of federal involvement in election administration
- Promote clear, enforceable standards that build public confidence
Bottom Line
A government derives its authority from the consent of the governed.
That consent depends on trust in the electoral process.
We do not strengthen elections by ignoring concerns or inflaming them—we strengthen them by ensuring the system is transparent, secure, and accountable to the people.
